How to Turn On Vizio TV Without Remote (All Methods)

Mkpoikana Otu - Tech Gorilla AuthorByMkpoikana Otu April 11, 2025April 11, 2025

If your Vizo TV remote is lost, out of batteries, or simply not functioning, you may need other ways to turn on the TV.  Modern Vizio TVs come equipped with alternative methods to ensure you’re never stuck. From physical buttons cleverly hidden on the TV to smartphone apps that turn your device into a remote, there are several ways to control your TV when you can’t use the remote.

Different Methods to Turn On Vizio TV Without a  Remote

1. Use the Built-In Power Button

If you’ve misplaced your Vizio TV remote, the best alternative for turning on your TV is the built-in power button. While modern Vizio TVs are designed to be sleek and minimalist, locating the power button can be tricky due to its discreet placement.

Locating the Power Button

The location of the power button varies depending on the model and year of your Vizio TV:

Newer Models (Post-2015):

The power button is typically located on the lower right corner of the back panel, just below the HDMI ports. If your TV is wall-mounted, you can run your fingers around this area to locate it or remove the TV from the wall if your hand can’t pass through.

For Older Models (Pre-2015):

Older Vizio TVs often feature their power buttons on the front bezel or on either side of the frame or the lower left corner. These buttons are usually arranged vertically, with the topmost button being the power button.

How to Turn On Your TV Using the Power Button

Once you’ve located the power button, follow these steps:

1. Ensure that your TV is plugged into a working outlet. Look for a small LED light at the bottom of the screen, indicating that the TV is receiving power4.

2. Press and hold the power button briefly to turn on your TV.

3. If your model has additional buttons (e.g., volume or input), make sure you’re pressing the correct one—usually marked as “Power” or “On/Off”.

2. Use the Vizio TV App to Turn On the TV

The Vizio TV app is available for both Android and iOS devices and has a virtual remote control for Vizio TVs. With this virtual remote you can turn your TV on and off, adjust settings like picture quality, volume, and inputs, stream content directly from apps like Netflix or Hulu via Chromecast or Apple AirPlay.

How to Set Up the Vizio App

1. Download the app on either Google Play store or Apple app store (depending on your device).

2. Create an account or sign in if you already have an account.

3. Ensure both your smartphone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

4. The app will search and find your Vizio Smart TV if it’s connected to the same network as your phone.

5. Select the + icon close to your TV name

6. Input the pin code displayed on the TV to the app to pair the device.

Once paired, you can use the app to turn on/off the TV, adjust settings, browse content, and stream media directly from your phone.

3. Use a Universal Remote to Turn on Your Vizio TV

A universal remote is a single control remote designed to operate multiple electronic components, such as TVs, DVD players, audio receivers, and streaming devices. You can use a universal remote to not only replace your original Vizio remote but also the remotes for other connected devices. Here’s how to set up a universal remote for your Vizio TV:

1. Purchase a universal remote that’s compatible with your TV. Check the documentation of the remote to find the list of supported brands and models.

2. Get the universal code for Vizio TV. You may also find some codes in the manual of your remote.

3.  Program your remote by following the instructions on the remote’s manual. You may need to try different codes to find the one that works.

4. Once you find a code that works, press the power button on the remote to turn off the TV.

4. Turn off your Vizio TV using HDMI Connected Device

If you have the HDMI-CEC feature on your Vizio TV Turned, you can control and turn off your Vizio TV using other connected devices like game consoles, streaming devices, etc. Here’s how to set it up.

1. Connect an external device like a gaming console or a streaming box to your TV via HDMI

2. Using your remote, navigate to Settings > System Settings

3. Under System settings, navigate to External Devices (or HDMI Settings depending on your TV model)

4. Look for a specific option related to CEC. It could be labeled as CEC, HDMI-CEC, SimpLink, Anynet+, or another similar term depending on your Vizio TV model.

5. Enable or turn it on.

6. Also turn on the HDMI-CEC settings on your connected device

7. Once enabled, you can use your console’s controller to turn on the TV and control basic functions like volume and input switching.
